Formed in early 2010, the multi-faceted ensemble Dialect Trio shows Piper Street Sound’s transnational sensibilities fully realized. Genre-bending to say the least, the core group of multi-instrumentalists include Russ Bledsoe on guitar, vocals, and percussion, Miami native Robby Astrove on drums, and of course Matt Mansfield on bass, percussion and various instruments and at the helm in the studio. Here the trio is rounded out with guest appearances by Gnarly G of Jazz Chronic on flute and saxophone, congas by percussion powerhouse Dr. Rasheed, and Dreamlab Studios owner Mike G on tuba (YES, TUBA!).
Considerably more stripped-down that PSS’ usual fare, these rough and raw tracks comprise the inaugural studio effort of an emerging Transnational Psychedelic act straddling the divisions between Afro, Latin, and the Blues. They’re getting their sea legs and feeling out their borders here. All the better to traverse them, my dear.
